On 2 February 2021 the First Minister announced the intention for childcare setting to open to all pre-school children from 22nd February. This is subject to continued progress in suppressing the virus and will be subject to final confirmation on 16 February 2021.

On Tuesday 16 February 2021 it was confirmed that childcare to under 5’s and P1-P3 would reopen on Monday 22 February. 
The First Minister will update the country in two weeks time with regards to further reopening for older children

Home Testing for Early Years Practitioners 

On 2 February 2021, the First Minister announced that it was their intention for those who work in schools, and those who work in early learning and childcare settings attached to schools will be offered ‘at-home’ testing twice a week.

It is mandatory for children aged 5 and above to wear face coverings in public including public transport.

Organised activities for children

On Tuesday 5 January 2021, mainland Scotland moved from Level 4 to a temporary Lockdown.

Organised activities for children are not permitted indoors at Level 4. Outdoor and digital options can continue. 

At Level 4 Parent/baby and toddler groups, where parents are expected to attend can continue outdoors where there are no more than 7 adults present at any one time and the group is for children under 5. Facilitators are included in the adult numbers. There is no restriction on the number of under 5s who can attend these groups.

At Level 4, outdoor organised activities for under 12s can continue where there are no more than 2 adults at any one time and the overall group size, including facilitators, is no more than 15.

Nursery Rates Relief

On 4 December 2020, The Deputy First Minister announced that Nursery Rates Relief will be extended until June 2023.
