Playgroup Assistant (Compass Playgroup)

Working hours: Thursday 8:00am – 11:45pm and Friday 8:00am – 11:45am (term time).

Are you passionate about early childhood education? Join Compass Playgroup, a respected charity organisation, in nurturing the development of children aged 2 to 5 years. We’re seeking a Playgroup Assistant dedicated to creating a supportive, engaging, and secure environment for our young learners.

About the Playgroup:
Compass Playgroup operates during term time, enriching young minds five days a week. With a focus on quality care and education, we prioritise safety and stimulation. Registered with The Care Inspectorate and a member of Early Years Scotland, Compass adheres to high standards and partners with the City of Edinburgh Council.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • As part of the Compass playgroup team, ensure a high-quality, safe, and stimulating learning environment for children aged 2 to 5 years.
  • Support in the design and implementation of engaging educational programs, tailored to children’s developmental stages and interests.
  • Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of resources and equipment in the indoor and outdoor areas
  • Foster strong partnerships with parents, maintaining open communication and community engagement.
  • Completing observations and ensuring that these are recorded accordingly.
  • Advocate for best practices in childcare, adhering to internal and external policies and regulations.
  • Reporting and recording all incidents, as well as promoting a culture of safeguarding
  • Support the Playgroup Leader with administration and management tasks where necessary.

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills: 

  • SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF level 7 (previously SVQ 3).
  • PVG Scheme Membership and SSSC registration.
  • Previous experience in early years education.
  • Knowledge of the Curriculum for Excellence.
  • Training and experience in supporting children with additional needs.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Desired but not essential: Paediatric first aid
