Who Do We Think We Are? Scottish Early Years Practitioners’ Perceptions of Their Role and Purpose

Join us for an engaging and interactive session where we delve into the perceptions of Scottish Early Years Practitioners (EYPs) regarding their roles and purposes. This session will present key findings and conclusions from a recent research study, offering valuable insights into the professional identities and practices of EYPs. 

About the Speaker: Dr. Joyce Leslie 

Dr. Joyce Leslie is a researcher and educator at the University of the West of Scotland. Her work focuses on early childhood education, with a particular interest in the professional identities and practices of Early Years Practitioners. Dr. Leslie, a former Early Years Practitioner and Head of Centre, has contributed significantly to the field through her work with students and practitioners in BA Early Learning and Childcare, BA Childhood Practice, BA Hons Childhood Studies and her development of a CPL module for Scottish Government.  She is currently Vice Chair of Board of Directors for Play Scotland. Session Expectations 

In this session, attendees will: 

Explore Research Findings: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the key findings and conclusions from the study on Scottish EYPs’ perceptions of their roles and purposes. 

Interactive Activities: Participate in playful and interactive activities designed to foster reflection and discussion. 

Creative Expression: Create models and drawings to represent your own ideas about the purpose and role of EYPs. This hands-on approach will provide insight into the research methods used and offer opportunities to reflect on similarities and differences to the study’s findings. 

Collaborative Reflection: Engage in collaborative reflection and discussion, sharing personal experiences and perspectives with fellow practitioners. This session will enable attendees to celebrate the importance and need for early years practitioners’ roles to be valued and respected nationally.
